OUR STORY
Labor Day Weekend 2008, Brad, my husband and I went on an innocent wine tasting weekend in Grand Junction, CO. We lived in Denver and had been tasting there a few times. We stayed in Glenwood Springs our first night, and then traveled through Paonia on our way over. Paonia and West Elks AVA opens into a vast mountain valley and is breathtaking. Stone Cottage Cellars was our favorite of the day. Hardworking people living on the land and making some very nice whites and reds. The third day of our wine tasting we stumbled upon a winery that we had not found before. We met Lydia, a wonderful woman, who was wise and witty. She and her husband Joe had been there for the past 10 years and their son Chris had made the wine. The red barn held the wine making equipment and barreled wine. We tasted wine and purchased one of everything she poured. Very impressive red wine for the valley, we thought. The farm was for sale, I hardly noticed...She planted a seed that day. "Just take a flyer", she said. We did and it only took a scenic 7 hour loop home to convince ourselves that we wanted to realize our dream of owning a vineyard and winery.
It is our third year of owning the Vineyard and Winery. We are making it. This is a family run operation. Chuck (my Dad) is an owner, the General Manager of the propert and our winemaker. Patty (my Mom) is an owner, she runs the tasting room. Brad (my Husband) is an owner and chief viticulturist, winemaking and deliveries. I am Brooke, an owner and my role is assistant winemaker and driving the Sales and Marketing for MPV.
We took a big risk and we were willing to take a risk, in fact we welcomed it, we sold our homes and put everything we had into this place. We are focused on creating superior wines, supporting local businesses and we strongly support the Colorado Wine Industry.
